Melchizedek will proclaim to them the Jubilee, thereby releasing them from the debt of all their sins… It is the time of the year of grace of Melchizedek… as it is written about him in the songs of David: “Elohim shall stand in the assembly of God; in the midst of the gods he shall judge” (Psalm 82:1).
Qumran’s Melchizedek scroll places a heavenly priest-king in the divine council of Psalm 82 and assigns him atonement and judgment. That is not fourth-century Trinitarian metaphysics. It is Second Temple language in which more than one exalted figure can be called elohim without collapsing the Father’s supremacy—the same grammar the Restoration uses for the Godhead.
